I had lots of celebration for my birthday last July. (oha july pa to naka draft sa blog ko:p) We had pasta and chicken festival at home, lunch with Boyps at Buffet 101 and the most recent was lunch with my mother and brother at Kanin Club. I wanted them to try Filipino dish aside from what my mother and auntie cook in our eatery.

It would be our first time to go to UP techno hub as this was the nearest branch of the said restaurant from our house. We had difficulty finding the place because there were few signage along the Commonwealth avenue. We had 3 rounds of driving along the Q.C circle and that made me hungrier and a bit dizzy.

There were a lot of customers waiting to be seated when we arrived. The waitress said that we have to wait for 30 minutes before we can get a slot. Luckily, after placing our orders, we were advised that seats are ready to be occupied.

I wanted them to try what I have tried before which is the Sinangag na Sinigang and their famous and unique crispy Dinuguan.

Sinangag na Sinigang (Php 224) is a fried rice that taste exactly like Sinigang. The only difference – it was dry. It was topped with thinly sliced pork meat, crispy kangkong and breaded okra.

Brother – asim, parang di bagay sa mga ulam na inorder natin.
Me – super yummy pa din! Hihi.

Crispy Dinuguan (Php 261), from its name, is made up of crispy porklets (and chicharon with laman – I think!) set in thick pork blood. My brother is a dinuguan non-eater but he helped me finish everything on the plate. The serving is really generous. Sawa na kami pero may nangunguya pa din. :p

Brother requested to try Crispy pork binagoongan (Php 231). It's a pork belly laid in bagoong sauce with tomato slices. The meat was really crispy but we all didn't like the sauce. It would be better if they will add more bagoong.

Mother wanted some fish so we settled for Binukadkad na Tilapia (Php 246). Another crispy dish but this was really bland. You really need to dip it to the soy sauce to add flavor to it. My brother finds it fishy though. Hihi

I think they enjoyed the experience as much as I did. My brother told me that he liked it because we had a break from our usual "fast food lunch out". Hihi
Mother would like to have dessert so I suggested to buy Razon's Halo-halo which is also just within the area.

It's not our first time in Yoshinoya. If I remember it right, this is the restaurant where we had our first dinner date but in Megamall branch. Bwaha. Anyway, it was already past 2 in the afternoon when we finished our shopping. Our stomachs are really growling so we settled for the restaurant with much lesser customers.
Here's what we had for our late lunch:

Miso Soup - a good starter for our hungry tummy.

Super Beef Bowl - thinly sliced beef mixed with lots of onions. For me it was good but Boyps said it was just okay.

Regular Chicken Teriyaki - mine is way better that Boyps :p. The chicken is soft and the sauce is really flavorful. It was also served with carrots, cauliflower and broccoli.

Kani Siomai - It's a siomai with crab stick on top. I'm not a fan of crab stick so I didn't enjoy this much.

Red Ribbon - Rice Meals

If I remember it right, this is my first time to order a rice meal at Red Ribbon. I usually order for Pasta + Cake + Drink whenever I dine here.

Everybody knows that Red Ribbon is one of the best cake sellers in the country. Now I can say that they do also serve great tasting meals like Tocino and Salisbury steak rice meals. Boyps’ favorite is Salisbury steak – 1 pc steak topped with gravy and mushrooms served with sides - mashed potato and corn and carrots.

I ordered for Honey – Glazed Tocino. I enjoyed this one. Its sweetness is perfect, the pork is cooked just right. I liked it more when dipped with vinegar. It's also served with egg and tomatoes.

Will surely be back at Red Ribbon to try other rice meals. =D

This food trip happened last July 30. Haha. So many back logs but I’ll try to give a review based on what I just remember.
I ask Boyps if we can try Gloria Marris. I’ve always wanted to try this resto but Boyps keeps on saying ‘Next time na lang’. One Saturday afternoon, as we pass by the place, I ask him again if we could give it a try, we looked at the menu and finally, he said okay. :D

During this time, Boyps and I had an agreement that we’ll just order food that we think we can consume. And if ever there’s left overs, we shouldn’t force ourselves to finish everything just to remove the guilt for wasting food. We’ll just bring it home. Hehe. So here’s what we got:
Japanese Siomai (Php 98) – Their version is dry. I was expecting it to be a little bit saucy. The taste was just okay. But for me, I still want those from Wai Ying and Ying - Ying.

Beef Fried Rice in Tomato (Php 198) – This one I like. It has beef strips and lots of veggies. It was a perfect combination of the sourness of the tomato and slightly salty flavor of the rice itself.

Japanese Fish with Tausi (Php 258) – My favourite! It’s a tofu topped with fish and tausi. The tofu and fish are perfectly cooked. And the sauce, it was really yummy. J

Gloria Marris has a lot of dimsums to choose from. The waitress brought her cart and asks us if we want other dimsum but we only tried their Japanese Siomai. Maybe we’ll try it next time as well as their Shabu – Shabu.

Service is quite slow as we needed to follow up the fish because the rice is getting cold. Ambiance is just perfect for me but Boyps said it's dark. Haha. Overall, we still enjoyed our dining experience at Gloria Marris.

Kogi Bulgogi and Happy Lemon

We’ve got recommendation from a friend for this restaurant. Friend said that dining here is ‘super sulit’ because of the complimentary foods that is served while waiting for the placed orders. I’ve already tried eating in Yedang, a Korean Restaurant, and I can say that it gave me a good impression about Korean food so my expectation at Kogi was really set so high.

We arrived at past 1 in the afternoon but still we were 3^rd in the waiting list. We waited for 30 minutes before we we're seated. And while waiting, we ordered the following:

Dulsot Bibimbap (Php 165) – a dish with onions, carrots, bean sprouts and other veggies with egg yolk on top of the rice . It was just okay. Best eaten with Chicken Kalbi to have a better taste.

Sam gyup Sal Ssambap (Php188) – served with rice balls, pork and lettuce. Pork is crispy but bland.

Chicken Kalbi (Php 235) – The best! It’s really flavorful. Glad to have at least 1 food on the table that’s really satisfying. Hehe.

Btw, the complimentary food is few as compared to Yedang. I think the number of complimentary dishes served depends on the number of people on the table.
Food is just so-so. Service? Uhmm, hmmm, hahahaha.. Let’s just say, I didn’t like it. We came late and are both hungry. We waited until those people who came before us were seated. While waiting, a couple arrived and said to the waiter that they are willing to be seated outside. Just after a few minutes, I saw them entering and waiter assisting them. Unfair isn't it? My mood started to change. Minutes passed, our turn came. A table that is good for 2 - yes we’re 2 but the table size is not enough to accommodate all the plates that we have! Wrong move and something will be broken. But I’m still thankful that we are seated near their bar section, the waiter just used the table near the area to put in some of our foods. All saucers from the complimentary set have to be consumed immediately to have some space. Hay, it's a fail. =(

Happy Lemon

Friend also suggests trying Happy Lemon. Since I wasn’t satisfied with my lunch; I was really hoping that this will make me happy again. Happy lemon adds to my list of milk teas that you must try. Theirs is so unique. It’s my 1^st time to have a milk tea with cookies and cream. This is good. But not as good as Boyps’ order. It’s a green tea with cheese and rock salt. I like the cheese “float”. It’s yummy, salty and really cheesy. We were instructed not to drink this with straw so as to avoid the bitter taste of the tea. Hehe! This is (so far) the best drink I’ve ever tasted! J

Peri – Peri Charcoal Chicken

[Another backlog - food trip happened last May 7].

Since Tita is only spending a month-long vacation here in Manila, Boyps makes our "Saturdate" extra special. We had lunch at Peri - Peri Restaurant and its his treat. We’ve been to this restaurant for the nth time and it has already become 1 of our favorites for 2 reasons – they serve delicious chicken for a price that is truly affordable and provide good customer service. Upon entrance, the crew will welcome you by saying “Ola Señor, Señora” and will direct you to your seat. Here’s what we got:

3 orders of ¼ chicken with rice meal. There are 3 flavors you can choose from - Lemon and garlic, mild spicy and hot and spicy (I’m not sure of the last). Tita and I ordered mild spicy while Bopys wanted Lemon and garlic. Chicken is juicy and flavorful.

Unlimited soup and Drinks – just add 49 pesos to your chicken meal to avail this offer. Their soup is tasteless and watery. Their juices are so-so. Just don't expect much on this. :)

Sizzling Chicken Fajita served with vegetables, 2 sauces and bread. I liked this. It’s spicy and tastes as if a lot of spices / herbs were added to it. I ate it this way: Place the chicken on top of the bread, put on some veggies, top with sauces, roll then eat!. Haha.

I must say that this is a must-try resto. I hope you'll enjoy their food as much as we did. :)
